A Spiritual Singalong & Musical Adventure

“Godspell” is a theatrical celebration of the life of Jesus Christ, composed by Stephen Schwartz, the three-time Grammy and Academy Award winner who has written hit musicals “Pippin,” “Wicked” and “Children of Eden.” Grand Canyon University is thrilled to bring this Broadway sensation to Ethington Theatre, glorifying Jesus through beloved tunes and colorful dance. Among “Godspell’s” timeless pop songs, “Day by Day” lights up the stage as an international, chart-topping hit.

This on-stage religious experience takes place in modern-day New York and centers around well-known parables from The Gospel According to St. Matthew. Jesus recruits a group of disciples who, through joyous song and dance, perform these parables that are peppered with traditional hymns and lyrics. Jesus and his disciples amusingly teach and preach these lessons through pantomime, tomfoolery and vaudeville. Yet, as Jesus spreads his messages of friendship, loyalty, kindness and tolerance, he ultimately becomes the target of betrayal and is crucified.
